Is there a method for this? In zbrush one can easily project 3d details from mesh to mesh, which tends to be very useful when in need of retopology, hence I wonder if the same can be done with textures?
ZBrush will transfer polypaint during the same operation, as long as RGB is turned on. If one mesh has a texture, just convert it to polypaint before using the Project tool.
If you have xnormal, you can bake textures and polypaint between completely different meshes / UV sets. Major 3d applications also allow for similar texture baking.

Most people don't bake textures between a high poly to low since that would require both the high poly and low poly to have uvs

It can also import Photoshop files (groups, painted layers and masks) and transfer those.
