I've been trying to create a mask to drive a warp, assuming this is even the best method, to create something like this;

That's one of the patterns that are complicated to do in Substance just as an image processing effect.
You can build a noise that does it though.

Here is an example I built a while ago. It is animated in the video but you can use it to create all sorts of swirl patterns by changing the input and parameters.
