I know this gun has probably been made a hundred thousand times, but it's just such a cool weird gun I just have to take a crack at my own anyway, heres my start at a Mauser C96
Solid start! Are you planning on sculpting in those little circular imperfections? I guess they were made with a lathe? The wooden grip will definitely be an interesting part to model.
still working on this as i find the time. the front end was indeed difficult. here's what i have. i think its getting there, but something still isnt right. anybody have thoughts?
Accuracy wise, almost there. Quite good, but has some rough areas.
Edges are too sharp in a lot of places. Zoom out, edges that start to alias badly will not transfer well on a bake.
Rear sight is missing an aperture notch to actually aim through. Also the hinge hole on the frame looks like a deformed circle.
Grip and the frame section are too thin, the top of the grips should be in line with the bottom of the frame.
At the bottom of the magazine floor plate there is a button to release it.
The red 9 decal is messy, doesn't resemble the sharp clean carving of your ref.
I corrected the hinge hole, added the sighting aperature (cant believe i missed that ha) added the button on the floor plate, adjusted the grips.
your right about the sharp edges, i may have gone a little to nuts recreating the real thing exactly. I'm thinking I will have to retop the whole thing for looser edges that read better.
red 9 sculpt does require more work.
I also added the grip notches in the hammer firing pin and safety. and finally made the trigger (lol)
