Hi, I am building my
level design / world building / set dressing portfolio. I wanted to ask you guys, what else can I do to make my folio stand out in order to land a decent job?
I am mainly interested in MMOs or RPGs, both over-the-shoulder 3rd person and top-down. Shooters sound cool too, but I am not sure if they use level designers who aren't advanced environment artists. I know Maya well and can model placeholder assets, but that's it.
Currently I have an
outdoor location, made in Unity with assets I got from their store. Did terrain sculpting, props placement, simple post-effects and color-correction.
I also have a
Starcraft II map.
And some
screenshots from a MMO I worked on long ago and a Warcraft 3 map.
I was thinking about making a level in Unity3d with scripted events, but I am not sure about it. While I know some programming, I sense I will need a lot of math to make it work. For instance, if I need to move soldiers from point A to point B, I will need to work with vectors. I know this is silly, but I just can't get along with anything math-related. Even with UE4 blueprints you are still required to work with math, so the same issues arise.
Thanks!
