Maya 2014: Lack of Immediate Response

Maya 2014 (Educational) has somehow started lagging. Does anyone have ay idea how to solve it?

1) Create a cube primitive.
2) Switch to Vertex Selection.
3) Draw Marquee around selectable Vertices.
>> Maya viewport does not immediately display update with selected vertices (yellow vertices)

The Viewport DOES update when I move the Viewport camera, or do other actions.

Restarting Maya seems to solve this problem.

Other issues also include attempts to exit the program (Clicking the X button in the top right window) does NOT immediately close the program.

Check your graphics drivers maybe? I remember there use to be a viewport lagging bug with some nvidia cards back in 2012.

I've experienced this issue in the past on some public computers dating back to Maya 2012. From what I can gather, it's a hardware or driver issue, as these things never happened to me on my personal rig at home which I always kept up to date. Other issues involved face & edge selection not updating until the camera moves, and UV points moving but the seam lines staying behind in their previous spots.

Updated my NVIDIA GPU driver. Testing for the rest of the day to see if it has fixed the issue.

GPU update did nothing. Anyone else have possible solutions?

Wish I did. This pops up now and again, and I've never found a suitable solution. Reboot seems to be the best option, as if there's some magic behind the scenes video driver crash that left something behind.

Hey Brian, as a very radical solution, I would advise you to reset your Maya's current config by deleting your prefs directory (after a backup of any custom shelves you would have setup). It might indeed happen you have enabled some function that would trigger GPU drivers inconsistencies ... like e.g. enabling AA in viewport 2.0 crashes Maya or make it unstable and unpredictable with some GPUs/drivers.

At least, after such reset, you can be pretty much sure it comes, or not, from Maya itself ;)

... \Users\Brian\Documents\maya\*2014*\prefs ... just in case, but you're probably aware of this location.

Did you also try going back a few updates? did you do an update recently that could have caused it? I once had to use a graphics driver which was almost half a year old so maya would work.
