Ok So at first, I was like eh..but then seeing Link riding Epona amongst the green trees and all, I coudn't hide the smile on my face, it looks terrific!

I've never missed any zelda up to date, even the terrible skyward sword, I'm looking forward to this one.

Give it another year, I have the same concerns of it being empty, but I'm sure they'll pack things in. They'd be pretty stupid not to.

Well that and the copy-pasted tree. I duno. With Ninteod, it always seem they're beyond all that graphical stuff and so they wanna concntetrate on having a solid gameplay first and a bug free game.

However, I find it sad to see so little attention to details in a title like this when you see how much Metroid Primes, Mario Galaxy 2 and Wind Waker were great for their time.

    I still have faith though.

Well you have to keep in mind, this footage is from a very early build of the game. The development team has a whole year to get things done and the core mechanics already look very solidified.

I can't wait to see some more footage, and hopefully Nintendo will show off some Starfox gameplay soon as well.

They're not magically going to fill out this world in that time,

It might end up shadow of the colossus, a whole lot of empty with many hot-spots of stuff (which is not unlike previous zelda titles). They're not going to fill out the entire world elderscrolls-style in a year.

I wouldn't really want them to. For real, 4 out of 9 "cities" in Skyrim are made up of like the same 5 straw-roofed houses. There's something around every corner, sure, but part of me really enjoys more open, natural places and less is more if you've got some distinction between locations.

Wind Waker also had a huge map to travel around, much of it being open ocean as you simply traveled around from island to island - but I loved it! Even if this amounts to a land version of that, I'll be super happy.

My absolute biggest gripe with Skyward Sword was that they threw out the cohesive feel of Hyrule, or whatever land you're trying to save from evil. It's the only Zelda game I can think of where your overworld map is 3 areas, and you can't travel inbetween them on the actual surface (it wouldn't make any sense the way they're placed anyway). Gave you no concept at all of the land you were actually in, or what you were supposed to be trying to protect. The upcoming Zelda title looks to be the complete opposite of that, so I am excited!

Awesome stuff, my Wii U has been kinda collecting dust for a while. Was mostly playing Monster Hunter and Mario Kart a little while back, but this and Captain Toad will be good enough reasons to start jamming it again :D

Is there a full screen version of this anywhere?

mhm dunno, i liked it more when they just showed their stuff when it was ready, cause those environments frankly look like shite.

first i thought this was fake because of how poor it looked.

to me nothing looks remotely interesting, i think they are heading the wrong way by making it bigger and trying to catch up with the trend of the rest, it lacks certain magic in it which 'Zelda The Wind Waker' has, at least graphic and art style wise, to me a new Zelda should more look like 'Rime' kind of style.

Looks awesome! I like the fact they're doing a bit of a Link Between Worlds (or... just pre-N64 titles if you're old enough) and making it more open and letting the player go where they want. I'm enjoying playing OoT again, but it's a bit tiresome to have this really awesome world and being locked into going to only certain places in an order.

I wouldn't expect the world to be filled elder scrolls style. Zelda games have done open world before and I'd hope the same formula would be applied to this game. With Wind Waker for example, you had a giant open sea with mini dungeons and random islands scattered throughout the world. There was still a noticeable travel time between areas, but that was filled with random types of enemies which kept traveling interesting.

I'm guessing the same feeling will exist in this game, you have to spend a lot of time on horseback, but it's not like you're just going to put the controller down.

they are actually talking about how you can put the controller down and the horse will ride itself.

Definitely doesn't give me the urge to run out and pick up a WII U, also who on earth decided this was the best way to show it off?

"Okay, so we want to show off the gameplay debut of the new Zelda, anyone got any ideas?"
    -
"Let's shoot if off scream while Miyamoto awkwardly describes everything that we're showing on the screen."
    -
    "Perfect."

dunno i quite like the low key approach, so many companies spend too much time/money on flashbang trailer that the games do not live up to, nintendo does the opposite but then their games have always been about the game, spectacle comes further down the list of priorities

Not exactly, they said the horse wont run into trees. Took it that you don't have to fine tune control the movement, but instead fine tune control over combat camera control. Should be something they didn't have to mention, and everyone would just think it felt right.

I may have missed a part though, if they're using it as fast travel, and the horse just trots along to a point.

    This looks pretty cool!

Depending on how much they dumb down Majora's Mask I may go off Zelda for good.

I really hope they just make Majora's mask a better game, get rid of tedious things, make things a bit more straight forward where people could get lost, and just expand on what else already exists.
