Is 3DO an acceptable tool to use for final renders for portfolios?

I get its easy enough to use Toolbag 2.0, but being tight on money and recently purchasing the suite I was just curious if it's ACCEPTABLE not necessarily common to use 3DO

*using it for simple props

For a character I wouldn't recommend it (because you'd lack some important things such as a skin shader for example), but in your case I don't see why that would be a problem to be honest.

You won't have as much control, but if the result looks good, why not!?

One of my portfolio pieces is rendered in 3Do, the rest are Tb2. 3Do is certainly useable but tb2 is undeniably better. Better mainly because it supports multiple meshes and materials, the skin shader etc as Jean-Pascal mentions, better export options, more skylights, better light/camera/scene settings, and lots of other things.

If you're just making environment art that has no organic skin shading needed, just drop $20 bucks for UE4 if you're willing to get an actual game engine to do some screenshots.

They ARE subscription, but they don't lock you out of the program if you stop subscribing.

As long as the art looks awesome it doesn't matter.
