Hey guys, this is one of my hardsurface assignments at gnomon. YOu think you could take a gander at it? i've remodeled it twice now, I think it looks ok, but somethings off about it but I cant tell. THanks chums!

ya the way your topology is set up right now might make it hard to get those pieces but if you plan to bake it you can just use this is a your lowpoly..
or you can break your model up into dif pieces where the dif shells are if that makes since lots of dif ways to make the cracks
I might just go ahead and retopologize it. I went forward and tried to get those teeny little creases witht he topology that i had. I dont mind the result. BUt something tells me i can do better with better topology.
Nice work so far. I think the top part of the reel needs some development. I've never seen a reel cap like the one you modeled (with a hollow handle). I've seen tops more akin to the img above. Adding more beveled levels to the top and then a rounded spin handle would also be more interesting as far as specular highlights.
Try to split it, you dont need to keep it single object.
Point '1' doesn't look good, try to improve form of that curve. Rear part should be perfectly circular, now it looks like n-gon.
That top nob needs to be thicker. Also like others have said, separate the objects. Keeping everything one object is something you want to do once you have sub-d down (And its not required most of the time).

Here's an update. I think i'm headed int he right direction. Hopefully any/all changes I have to do from this point on are purely textures/materials. I remodeled this a few times since I went silent. What are the thoughts here?
