Hi there, I've been working on a character and need to improve my abysmal ability to rig. I've begun doing a bit of facial rigging and have come up with a rather big problem.

I've rigged more realistic faces before, but this stylized character has a non-typical face and larger than usual eyes. Spheres for eyeballs were obviously not a solution when I tried those out, so I tried using some curved planes, since I've seen models use that before. I tried that out, but the eyes clip through the face. Then I tried keeping the eye whites static and putting the pupil as a different mesh slightly in front of the eye. The pupil clips through the main eye, so that's not working either. Both eyes are parented to eye bones that are controlled via curves.

Does anybody have any ideas or ways on how to configure or do this properly?

Here are some images. In the second image, I show both problems at once. The character's right eye has the latter pupil problem while the left one has the main eye issue.
