I adjusted the grip. I worked on the back and added some variation in details. Everything is HPd. For the texturing those bulb shaped things will have more variation in material, emissives and glass and such.
I like where this is going. Cool choice of subject matter too.
The only minor critique I have is around the butt of the rifle. The edges seem a bit too thin and you might want to have the geo "flow" into one another with edge looping. Right now, some of the pieces seem too jarring on where they intersect. Then again, I'm sure you're aware of that seeing this is still a WIP.
Keep it up, looking forward to where this is headed.
Thanks, Mesh! I fixed the smoothing issues on that piece on the center, I aded more edge loops and adjusted the verts. Towards the butt of the rifle, I tried to fix that transition between that cylinder and that box shape. I bumped up the size of some of the smaller details. Pending on approval of instructor, I'll go at it on the low.
I Like it. I hope this doesn't sound bad, but some posting advice ... You placed a lot of high res images that took awhile to load for me (where I'm sitting at least) that don't have very obvious changes. When you make small adjustments to such a model, it might be better to show a close up of the issue rather than the same screen shots. As it is now, I sort of glossed through the images a few times and still don't see the changes without looking harder. A critiquer likely won't want to look too hard for them.
I'm tempted to say the low poly has too many loops, but I'm not the one who has to bake it, so I won't.
Nice work. I'm not really convinced by the blue glass, the original concept has these parts in red, but you're not forced to follow it of course. However this blue is maybe a bit too pale. The red is not flashy enough too I think, could be nice to have some flashy plasma weapon, maybe with bright green glass ?
Oh and the red actually looks more like painted metal on the concept, it's not the same material as the gray metal, maybe you could change your material a bit to have a difference ?
Here's another update. Since it is for a class, and since my instructor was happy with the color, I kept it but made it a bit stronger. I will mess with it after class.

Overall it's a good job. Funny enough I actually stumbled upon drgrordborts website last night, there are some awesome weapons on there.
