Question regarding the Megascans subscription: will the megascans materials be locked down in a proprietary file format? (ala megascans starter pack included in the suite)
or, will they be provided as standard image file format?
Hopefully the latter....

i'm not exactly sure, I installed the suite and it says it comes with over 1GB of megascans starter pack. The majority of the suite installation are the *.PAT files, and by the looks of the filenames for the .PAT files, they are the megascan samples. I'm not sure if they are included as smart materials in dDo or what.
I don't use dDo and I have no interest in the suite. I am more interested in using the Megascans in other applications. So I really hope the megascans aren't going to be a proprietary file format or locked down in dDo.
But yes, the Megascansbutton is currently greyedout.
ok, thx for pointing that out. They weren't associated with photoshop by default, and seems like the process of importing them to photoshop as presets isn't as straightforward as just opening them.
in any case, I imported them as presets to photoshop, kind of a pain, and i see them in the preset patterns now but still kind of unclear how I get at the actual textures.
hopefully megascans are distributed as regular image files and not these photoshop pat files.
Any official word on this? It seems quixel guys read this forum. Really simple question.
read this thread: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136966&highlight=megascans
Based on the info in that thread Megascans should be a stand alone subscription based service.
Ok cool, so it's a separate service from suite. Perfect, can't wait. thx for the link.
Gonna try to clear up some things here, The Megascans button is greyed out because the service is not yet released, the starter pack refers to the materials that are already inside DDO (not the smart materials)
It will be a standalone service, you can check Quixels facebook page for some juice new images from Megasscans (link provided here http://quixel.se/megascans-breakdown)
And stay tuned for December 10th for a complete unveiling of the Megascan service!
