So my mother has gotten into making scaled models using model kits, and I wanted to get some for her, however she didn't want any of the normal plane, cars ect kits.
So I have been looking around for something more interesting, such as space, mechs or steampunk but I have had problems figuring out places which sold that kind and which wasn't already assembled and painted. Mechs is especially a problem to search for, because I get the anime style mechs and I wanted less humanoid style for her.
So I was wondering if anyone else is doing scaled models and know some good sites which got some (and deliver to Denmark or Dublin)?

Echo that, he does really great stuff!
Also cool but bizarre this is for your mother, haha. I thought it'd be for you. Helps you as an artist tbh, learning how to paint irl and prep things. It's more enjoyable than 3D art to me these days.

This Ikaruga kit is gorgeous too :

And kits based on Miyasaki movies are also very nice :

Have fun ! (both of you !)
Hehe, yeah I know, my father used to do models when I was little, but cant anymore. And I was surprised as well when I heard she wanted to do it, she never showed any interest in it, but I will support her because I'm interested in it as well.
Now the REAL hard work is to look through all those links and models and pick some for her christmas gift... gonna be real hard! Thanks again.
The Miyasaki/Nausicaa ones are very simple yet still look very nice and elegant when completed. I think they would be great for a beginner.
A few cans of Tamiya light grey primer would be a fantastic extra little gift by the way !

The cap looks white on that picture but it really is grey. Tamiya is actually making a white primer too, but it is awful - it doesn't stick properly and is very runny. They fine grey one however has perfect coverage and is wonderfully smooth.
You can go to forge world for some bigger and more special stuff
Here are also some warhammer monsters on forge world, theyre quite big

Tau are essentially mechs
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Tau/TAU-BATTLESUITS-AND-DRONES?filter_reset=1
they all have to be assembled and glued and are not painted obviously
Edit: ah its about assembling, well the warhammer ones are sometimes hard and complex but sometimes very simple to assemble, its more about painting them. If you are seaching for nothing that is too complex, its probably just right,
anybody can do them, but its sometimes tricky, depending on the model and glue.
Tamiya, japanese model car facturer has also a wide array of miniatures, but its all the usual tank / ship / soldiers stuff, maybe some crazy japanese mech things but i dont know
Something that's supposed to end up dirty and grimy can be quite fun, and allows some more leeway with being sloppy and making mistakes when you're still new. Get here some issues of 'The Weathering Magazine' alongside in that case.
