Thank you! This, and other feedback i got, helped out alot. I feel i should've posted some updates earlier but better late than never right?
Long story short, i changed up my entire layout cause it was lacking a focuspoint. I dropped some of my minor ideas (mainly the coastal line) due to time constraints.
If it's not clear, the weird grainy lines are a rain effect in the scene. I can imagine it's not obvious from the screenshots.
My thoughts:
- The vegetation looks good (although a bit outdated)
- The texture resolution seems pretty low
- The materials read all the same for me
What i really dislike about it is the last picture and the overall lack of anything special. It looks like the same forest we´ve seen hundreds of times. Give the scene some sort of story or some light effects. For now it looks really boring.
Your last picture sums up all negative aspects for me. The rocks look very unrealistic, there is some texture stretching the materials are boring and grey (like the whole environment). This coast line does not offer anything special and it also fails to depict a realistic and ordinary one.
Don´t let that discourage you. I hope that if you really improve on that aspects you can bring this environment on a whole different level.
This scene shows some really promise and potential. I do have a few gripes that I think hold everything back.
I'll start off with your textures. Particularly with the rocks, ground and bark. They all appear very flat. They lack any real "pop" to them. Experiment with boosting your normals or tweaking your spectacular maps. You texture resolutions could do with an increase too. Everything looks a bit low rez. This is especially noticeable in the last image you posted.
From looking at your last couple of images you posted, your overall vegetation could really do with an increase in contrast. Everything looks the same solid shade of dark green. Look at some reference images of forests. The difference is subtle but it's there.
I think you could afford to spend a few more polys on your trees. One of the first things that stood out for me were the branches on the trees. I can clearly see where the bend is. I think you could do with looking at some reference images of branches. Even with this type of tree the branches don't bend that harshly. Not to mention the branches all look the same. Add some variety. Have multiple offshoots and splits.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to your next post.
Would have to get on the agreement badwagon. Overall the aesthetic is lovely, but the individual assets all look low res, low poly, and flat. But thumbs up on the colors and composition!
Thank you guys for the feedback!
I have a feeling i've gotten feedback on the older images so i deleted those.
But i do fully agree about the different props. Gonna make some changes on those asap.
