Character model animation interaction in Unity

I've been trying to figure out how to animate two character models in 3ds Max and then export them from their separate files into unity so that they can perform death duels similar to those in Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvxwtod00To.

How does one go about doing this if you have two separate characters with their own animations?
