Wow that's a detailed blockout! Really nice concept too, so I reckon this'll look awesome when it's done.
As far as the tarp is concerned, I think it might be a tiny bit too glossy. If the underside is covered in condensation then I would expect a slightly more matte surface over the plants. It might be worth giving it a very subtle blue/green tint too, as the scene atmosphere is quite cold, so it might help it to sit better into the scene.
This is a really minor suggestion though. It looks brilliant so far, and I'm purely suggesting it in case you're looking for some feedback. Great work!

Thanks for the advice Wesley, I took it into consideration, seeing as it made sense.
Here's where I'm at so far.
It's very green for some reason, It's looking more Matrix like. I'll tone it down or get rid of it all together, but I'm just playing with tint for now.
the laptop is pretty much done, I just need to add some wear to the key lettering and maybe a hand smudge on the screen.
cool so far. To me, the tarp doesn't look quite right. The concept looks like a wispy piece of flimsy plastic wrap. In yours, it looks like a much thicker, melted piece of plastic. At first I would suggest simply lowering the opacity of the material, but I think that you also need to thin the folds of the tarp. The tarp in the original doesn't distort the background lights as much as yours and is much smoother overall. Also, the concept has much skinnier folds and wrinkles. Yours are rather large, making it look like thicker plastic. Other than that, the scene itself is looking good. Looking forward to the finished piece.

You know, I can see what you're saying, I do need to make one more tarp to put behind the CRT monitor. I'll take that approach and see which one turns out best, but it makes sense. Mine looks like transparent cloth.
Also, sorry sushi, I've been up all night and took some screen grabs. Forgot to grab textures and material set ups. I'll do it on my next post. Is there any one in particular you'd like me to break down?
Your ambient light is too dark, your blacks are crushed....really standing out under the table with stools and over by the lamp on the desk next to computer.

good eye man, I'm still trying to feel out the lighting, plus i had a problem with the scene file so I had to recreate all the MATs and get it all back into UE4 again. So I went a little crazy on the lighting.
Here's where it's at now.
Still have props to finish, but I'll finalize them once the scenes major parts are taken care of.
Also, i was thinking about putting thumb tacks on the papers hanging.
Wow this has come quite a way since I last saw. It's looking much nicer without the blinding bloom, haha!
Really nice so far. I do think you could do with more ambient light. I know the original concept is very high contrast, but I feel some of your really nice models are being slightly lost in the shadows. It'd be a shame to not be able to fully admire them!
Thanks for the reference pixelpatron, I put it use.
So these past few weeks have been very slow for art, but plentiful for family time. I did some work today on both scenes. Nothing substantial, but I will have more time to work Thursday and Saturday. Meantime, here's some stills.

Here's a finished tarp material. Took a while to get it where I want it.

Less gloss on the tarp.
That's a nice looking laptop. Do the keys have geometry? Or are they just normal mapped (purely out of curiosity).
The laptop keys are normal mapped, I'm actually making the keys for the PC and typewriter though.
Sure no problem, I'll take some screens when I'm done for the night.
