Maya Smooth misaligns edges if they were moved

Hi.

I am having some issues using the maya smooth tool. If i have moved any edge in any way with the move tool etc, the edge becomes jagged if i then smooth it.
The issue is shown below.


Is it a setting that maybe set wrong or may something else be causing the issue?

What does the mesh look like before you smooth it?

Did you "clean" the mesh before smoothing - like freeze transforms and delete history?

Ok i found the issue, i had to reset my tools as it was on some weird setting for smoothing. I think it was that "Hard edges" was turned on and "Tessellation" was turned off thank you for your reply.
