As part of a college brief that I have been given, I have to come up with a series of concepts of either movies,TV or video games in which I have to create a 3D diorama for similar to the VG Remix contest.
I first started this assignment by looking into a few different areas in which I got potentially base my low poly diorama on, this varied from different TV shows like Sons of Anarchy and the Sleepy Hollow TV series, then I looked into movies as well, these included Ghost busters 1, Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and Spider man(see attached concepts for what the diorama could of been), but instead I stuck to a video game theme which was when I came up with the idea of doing one to try and capture the essence of an iconic arcade game; Gauntlet.
I also create 2 rough concepts in 3Ds Max of what a Borderlands VG Remix could be.
The First idea was 2 of the main characters being sat in the Bandit Technical (one of the main modes of transport in the second instalment of the game) with Claptrap hanging on the back of it whilst being chased by Knuckle-dragger (the massive Bullymong Boss that the players first encounter in the game) and the next idea was 2 of the main playable characters (most likely Maya the Siren and Salvador the Gunserker) protecting Claptrap from a surrounding horde of Bullymongs
Once I decided that Borderlands was the game that I was modelling my Diorama after, I started to draw up T-pose sketches of the characters and props that I am going to use in the model.
The only main change that I did for it was swapping the 2 main playable characters down to one and using Gaige the Mechromancer (DLC character) instead.
The T-pose concepts that I drew are: Gaige the Mechromancer, Clap-Trap, Bullymong and the Tediore Shotgun.
The head for Gaige is based on the "Keeping it real" in game customisation head for Gaige, and not the standard head for Gaige.
The main idea of how Claptrap will look, just need to make some adjustments to the alpha texture and also add some dirt and grime to the body paint of him.
My Second character, which is Gaige the Mechromancer, but instead of using the defualt head that players are given in-game, I have opted for the "keepin' it real" head customisation option.
My third character for the diorama is the Bullymong, Borderlands 2 four armed ice gorilla type monster.
This character I will have multiples of to show a horde of them surrounding and attacking Gaige and Claptrap.
One of the things you could do in Sketchfab is remove the bilinear pixel filtering to give these that pixelated look.
Thanks for the advice Adam and I have taken into account the bilinear filter and removed it from my models and I have selected the "nearest" filter option instead.
The main Platform for the VG Remix. The main idea behind this platform is my take on the floating city of Sanctuary (one of the main in-game levels) but instead of it being Sanctuary its a small part of the Frozen Tundra(the icey level just outside the maingatesof Sanctuary before it got ripped out of the ground and into the sky.
Here is my Environment with all the main architectural props in place, the only thing I was annoyed about was the alpha maps on little bolts of electricity on the cactus plants didn't work with the alphas on the ice shards, so I ended up removing the electricity from the scene.
Rhys, I feel like you need to take the actual concepts of the characters and check your model's silhouettes against the real game art concepts. Right now, for example. Gaige doesn't read teenage girl and more like a grown man in a skirt.
I say specifically silhouette. Disregard everything you see inside and only cmply to the silhouettes.

An updated model of Gaige now with the alpha maps on her belt.

Ice shard props that will be placed around my VG Remix platform.

One of the annoying plants of Borderlands 2, the electric Cactus.

Updated Claptrap character now with dirt marks on his body paint and improved alpha maps

This is my final outcome of my VG Remix diorama of Gaige protecting Claptrap from a horde of Bullymongs.
