Stylized Character Head Feedback Needed

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble figuring out whats wrong with my character's face.
Something seems off and I dont know what.
Its really getting frustrating and I would really appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Here is the only angle I think it looks even half way decent in:

Btw, I'm an environment artist who has never done character art before so feel free to point out things you might think are obvious because I've probably missed them.

This dropbox link contains a bunch of different angles and an obj of the head: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o1smz4cmkq7jhm4/AAAuV1mzqGdZ9Lxj_KrrbRDHa?dl=0

If you import the obj make sure to add a subdivision modifier level 2 (in blender) or hit the '3' key in Maya

Any concept you're following ? or reference you're using ?
He doesn't look too bad to me, though I'm not that good either. The things that jumping at me right away is 1. the shape of the nose, 2. mouth area, and chin, 3. eyebrows 4. his neck.

I used this to get a simple base then used images off of google to figure out the volumes in between images. Ultimately, the character wasn't suppose to look like the character in the images

You would be the second person today to think it was a male. its suppose to be a female. I clearly need to figure out how to accentuate female features.

Well, shlt. That just makes it much harder :P I'm working on similar anime style female as well this month and it's been pretty tricky so far. The help I been getting is bigger cranium, and smaller pointy-nose. Make really nice lips because they're very important. Sometimes cheekbones help a lot as well. Depends on the style you're going for, though. Sometimes female char has very small lips instead.

Might want to look up Hazardous's works. He makes really nice female faces. Stylized and all alike.

    Good luck with the proj.

Another suggestion I'd make when it comes to make more female features would be to decrease the width of the jaw I should think - I think it might help since your character has quite short hair.

I should have mentioned this in the original post but the hair is just placeholder while I work on sculpting her real hair which is longer. I got that hair off of some model I had laying around.

I checked out Hazardous's stuff and it is awesome. i'm definitely going to use it as reference. Thanks for posting that!
