I'm working on a small level in UE, with a cartoony sci-fi theme. I'm trying to practice hand-painted sci-fi, but i haven't seen many articles and tutorials on the topic. Most are medieval/goth themes textures, with lot's of wood and stone. Do you guys recommend any tutorials on the subject?
Also, any inspirational material? It's hard to find sci-fi themed cartoony/cel-shaded texturing work. Thanks in advance, guys.

Like I said, I'm shooting more for a 'the walking dead/wolf among us' style with scifi, so I'm doing hard, thick lines in lieu of scratches, on top of light paint splatter and traditional brush effects, combined with a slightly posterized baked ambient occlusion layer. It's a little different then standard hand painting, I'll admit, but I hope it helps.
Here are a few that I did by painting over previous textures I had on hand.
That's some really nice work. How did you end up with those bases? Have you applied some effect on the original texture to "water" it down? Or did you start with some pure color palette and applied some grunge brushes onto it?
It's sorta hand painted - I still use vector shapes and layer FX since I found it difficult to draw straight lines and create high tech designs by hand.
It's not cartoony at all but maybe it'll give you some ideas.
It looks like this:
