So i know that this joint is deforming incorrectly because I have it modeled wrong, I just dont know how to fix it. I insert edge loops in the places that i think need support, but it does not change anything. Ive looked at others hand topology and i can not seem to replicate the results. Can someone give me a paint over on how to fix this so i can get the topology fixed and start the uvs? im going to animate it later im just trying to make sure this is modeled correctly before i texture the whole thing and have to throw it all out because of poor topology for animation.
(Also i know the joints should be named, this was just a test to see if i had my topology correct so i did not bother)
Well it looks like you've placed your joints wrong, they should be in the middle of the loops. And is it skinned at all or just a smooth bind applied with no modification?
Cool! Looks a lot better I'd advice you to look into how to properly work with skin weights aswell, proper topology is just the first step to good skinning.

That one's a pretty good mini-tut for low poly modeling.
hope it helps
