I love Cassiopeia as well, she have a very dynamic design.
All your scketches are great, love them and the idea she is breaking into pieces the petrified Sivir sounds really cool for an action pose.
Nice work Jan.
Really digging the second-to-last sketch you posted.
Might be cool to have sivir in the process of turning into stone... maybe her outstretched arm is already stone and breaking apart while she looks on in horror.
here's an update on my progress,
I got the sketch pretty close to what I want, except for the details
on Cassiopeias armor.
Now I have to decide on some values and the lightingsituation.
Not quite sure in which direction I want to go yet with the lighting.
The miasma coming from the water is supposed to glow red or purple and
her body will be black with red markigs. This might make it hard to see
her clearly if i also choose lighting which obscures her in shadow.
On the other hand, if I choose a strong light hitting a larger part of her
body, the impression of a mostly black snake might be diminished.
thank you for your kind words
I have been working on my picture up till now in black and white, trying
to get my values right.
I think I am at a point now, where i will want to start in color soon.
I will let myself have one or two days to spot the last errors I want to
fix in the values and then I will start laying in colors.
At least thats my plan, hope I will be able to stick to it
this is the version from yesterday.
here is the current version.
I had lots of problems with Sivirs right hand wristguard. I am still not
convinced that i got it right. Its confusing to me, even with the model
viewer
Cassiopeias armor pieces are still quite undefinded. I am not sure if
I want to detail it out perfectly before i go into color. probably won't ^^
I am not quite used to making a full bw version of the image before coloring,
but I wanted a more controlled approach for this piece, because i tend to throw thing and ideas into chaos when working directly in color, changing the
composition quite a bit.
I can already notice, that the value first approach is giving much more
controll over the depth of the image. I think though, that right now, im
still not using the b/w spectrum well enough.
Let's see if I can improve it until I start with color
I am currently working on the snakeskin for Cassiopeia.
Also still fiddling around with Sivirs armguard. That thing drives
me nuts.
I got quite some excitement building to finally go into colors, but I can't
just yet.
Here is an update on my progress into coloring.
I was basically just trying around to see what fits best this weekend.
Not much progress was made, and I am unsatisfied with my results, guess
I'll have to try harder .
I am considering changing my original Idea for a black snake cassiopeia
into a blue snake, reminiscent of an indian goddess. However, I am not
sure it would fit the Image.
@Alvaro.Knot: Thanks! Hope I don't dissappoint ^^ . Im also interested to see yours finished!
So this is just a small update. Have been getting more comfortable with
my colors and started going in with brushes. Before, I was mostly working
non destructively with adjustment layers. This is basically going to be
the same progress over and over from now on . Refine rendering, adjust colors, refine, etc.
Pretty nice work! Looking forward to the final
I liked the blue tint on the character in the back more, though. It gave it more depth and made it easier to read.
Thank you, and you are totally right, it needs rework.
Are you still active in the Digitalartforum.de? I recognised your name, so I checked your website and I remembered some of the Artworks
I was aktive there years ago as JanW, but haven't visited in a while.
You seem to be doing quite fine for yourself, judging by your website thank you for your feedback and stay tuned for more!
Ohh, here you are, Jan! I wondered a while ago where you went ..
No, I'm not active over there anymore, too. Wasn't much fun when most people left. Times change...
Anyway, good luck with that entry! I'm planning on joining too eventually.
@Nusuke: Ah thats too bad . Well, I'm looking forward to your entry then!
@littlet: Yeah, i am constantly adjusting the lighting, so it tends to go from
extreme to extreme until i get it right . I am also thinking, that there is
something going on with the image when i upload it to my website, and it's viewed
in a browser. The same file looks quite different in the windows preview and
the browser.
@Arcade: Naw, its not just you I really need to get her head a lot better,
because it's so important to the image.
Here we go with sundays progress.
Worked on the scales mostly. Got pretty scared when i thought i had
overwritten an hour of progress of painting individual scales. Close one.
I still need to go on to Cass' face and fix some stuff.
I decided today to go a bit more intense with the miasma cassiopeia lays
down on her enemys. I'll let it sink in for today and check tomorrow if
I hate it
I'm feeling pretty blind to my own errors, since I have stared at this image
so much. Feels like there are more problems popping up every time I open this up.
Well, can't be helpe. I am thinking to make a cut on next sunday and getting
as much done as I can up until then. Let's see how far we can get.
One thing I noticed is that Sivirs bottom hand does not read well [that could just be my computer], other than that i would just focus on the lighting and the poison.
KeenEye: Thank you for the hint! I think you are quite right.
This is what i've got for today. I almost merged all my layers today to work
from there, because I feel sick of keeping everything seperate. Good thing
that i didn't yet, since I wouldn't have been able to flip the direction
of the yellow poison fog over the water. That definitly helped with some
of the uneasynes I had in that area. I think though, that i might just overpaint
the whole water again, to make the fog and water more of a single unit.
I got some progress. Still fiddling around with almost everything in the
image. Tried some photos on the water and liking that a lot more, but it
still feels off. I need it to feel like it's some vicious poison bubbling there.
Basically like a witches cauldron or something.
Question, the water effect there is like a photobashing? cus it's looking pretty good, maybe a bit off as you said, but as long as you keep painting it, i think it will look great
@Alvaro.Knot: Thank you The water currently is 3 cutouts from photos of crocodiles rolling in water, because I thought that would be the closest to this . I am painting over most of it though, because in close up you see
the difference in texture to the rest of the painting. I was really lucky though that the lighting on the photos matched pretty well with my painting.
here we go, getting closer to the deadline. I'm getting exited. It's awesome seeing so many people create.
Have been working on the water alot and feeling alot better about it now.
I also finally decided to change sivirs right hand into another pose. I think
it works alot better now. As per usual changing the background around still and
also working on Cass' body quite a bit more.
here is my last progress. I'm feeling pretty final about it. I'll let
it rest for a bit and see if I want to change anything, and then it's
time to call it a rest Feeling pretty exhausted right now. Time for
some rest!
Damn, this is one of my fav with the Dragon slayer Trundle man, i love how dinamic it feels, rlly a great job ^^ and the water works great, hey do you have a Deviantart acc or facebook page where i can follow you? i dont want to lose the trail of your work
