After looking for some ideas for this contest, a friend of mine suggested using this model. I think it would be fun to do. It wasn't rigged when i got it so I have to do that step before I can animate it
That's a cool model! You can do some really interesting stuff with that spider. When I do spider walks I offset each leg so that it gives it a creepy / scary look:
I fancy "C" more... it just feels a bit symmetrical for a spider cycle... do you want it to be a spider cycle? coz I'm reminded with the robot from "The Incredibles"
Yes, it's a spider like thing. I thought of the spider was from incredibles. But I looked at the concept and found out it is from samurai jack's season 2. The monster called "The beast". I based the C walk cycle off the cycle from the episode.
I think you should try and keep this simple. Doing the octopus thing would be totally awesome if you can pull it off. But i think you can still play around with the whole spider walk. Your first few attempts were a good start. However, look into offsetting the timing of the legs some. At the moment each pair of legs are moving at the same time so it seems a little weird. I haven't actually animated anything with 8 legs but i would definitely start by studying some spider reference.
Thanks for the feedback. I am going to look into Richard William'a spider animations from his survival guide and see if I can get down the leg offset. I have already tried the octopus a few times so once those are at a presentable stage ill post them.

Let me know if anyone has any more ideas they might think that are cool or interesting for my character.

This is more like the cycle from the felhunters from warcraft. Or anything with pincers really.
maybe try something like this?
Oh man that's awesome reference!

Keep at it mate!
I gave what Kevmm47 suggested a try. Wasn't able to get it to look right. Ill keep working with it but this is what i got so far.
Can you bounce the main body? or will that change the foot steps? I'm not sure how the rig works
Just a simple block animation to see if the ultimate move would work and to plan out the timing and spacing of the animation.
Also made some small tweaks to the walk cycle:
Kind of short ranged :P
Also compiled the different camera angles into a video. Too long to make a legit gif for it so here is the link.
