I wanted to say that i'm super psyched for this contest, thanks to everyone who contributed to getting this contest ready! and I'm SO GLAD that there's a VFX section!!! There's so much talent here, and seeing other people's work is very inspiring. Here we go!

I just came up with a 2nd idea! I'm going to do an ice effect that's a mix of xerath, kogmaw, and heimer's ult

Alright! Thanks to Sirhaian, I was able to post an image on my original post that links you to the most updated video! But if you don't want to scroll up, here's a video of my progress! The textures are def still WIP
Since the last time I polished some of the arrow charging by adding mesh emitters and animating the swirly auras around the arrow. I also started doing timing and speed movement sketches for the release and the hit!
Anyway, that's a good start! I like how the arrow gets "ready to be shot" at 00:02. It looks nice already.
Maybe give it a bit more impact. ^^
But yeah, just a WIP, and a good one. Keep it up!
Yeah I can't wait to do the impact! The current stuff that is in there is just some holding spot for my timing so I don't have to input the correct timing later
Hey guys, I've definitely been MIA for a LONG time. Holidays are sooo busy at work and at home. Thank goodness for thanksgiving weekend and days off! I'm going to try to update as much as possible this weekend when time allows. Here's my update! Added colors and more things into the first effect.
I'd recommend cutting the initial build time, and increasing the transition time between the arrow's first stage and its second. From the video, it looks like the initial arrow sits there for about 1.75 seconds, then pops to the second form in about .25 seconds and pauses till it fires. Try and have equal time between when the arrow spawns, its transition to the second stage, then fires. With the extra time added to the second form, try and lengthen and smooth out the transition between the two arrow states. The "pop" from form one to two is a bit harsh, and a little too quick. Grow the arrow size, fade in the new lens flare (maybe add some slow rotation to it as well) and then shoot it off at the same time it fires right now.
EDIT: I'd also recommend adding more lighter yellows, or maybe even some white into your textures. With the dark background, it gives the deeper oranges of your effect an almost brown look at a glance. Some very fine white/yellows in the very center of your arrow and the firey parts of the texture will give it a bit more pop.
I'll definitely be looking into adjusting the timing in the phases, but I also kind of like the 'pop' of the arrow with the ember/sparks flying off it as it pops into its larger size. But it won't hurt to try other things out! I'm basing this FX off of Varus' piercing arrow.

My next steps will be creating some fire aura while the 'charged up' version of the arrow is idle!
