Can someone help me out with this issue? Or do any of you know what is going on here, or now how to fix it? It makes modeling almost impossible to do.
I appreciate any help any of you can give.
I have Maya 2014. I also tried changing the renderer to viewport 2.0 and high quality, but still same problem.
Thanks.

I usually set both of these values like 1 for near and 1000-10000 for far clipping.
It mainly depends on your scene size but try it, 't should solve the issue.
After trying the value you gave me for the near clip it worked.
I also forgot I had to close out of maya and restart it again. Well after doing so, its back in working order.
So thank you a bunch Jeff for your quick help. Greatly appreciate it.
The default values in pref/settings is almost always overscaled whatever the size of your scene. Imagine you're working in centimeter unit, then these values are meant to become ridiculously low ... like who would like being able to get as close to the object as 1/1000 cm
But imagine now your settings are set in meters, than it makes almost sense for the near clip to be as low as 0.001 (or even in some case 0.0001) >> but then it's the far clip that becomes ridiculously high ... like who would like being able to be as far as 10km from the object, it's rarely the case that way around too
Think about near/far clip as the reasonable values you would get close or far from your object, relatively to the prefs/settings/default unit currently used, and you'll never get caught again
I made some mistyping though when writing 1 for near and 10000-100000 for far. It's more a relation ratio than real definite values.
0.01 - 1000 is enough if you're using meters.
1 - 100000 is good if you're using centimeters.
Hope that clears everything out
ps : don't loose time messing around with the near/far settings though, for each new scene.
Best way is to reach these settings directly through scene's cam settings ... second camera icon right on top of the viewport.
Changing units accordingly through settings/prefs is fine though, cause there's no other place in Maya where these can be set.
This script set has a neat little gem that can set an expression to the near/far clip relative to your current view. It's handy if you're working on stuff up close and pull way out for a large scene like that, I'm using it right now actually. But you do get other behavior, like not being able to see across the room in periphery because you're focused on a table, but I think it's minor and easily taken back off anyway.
Will give a try asap, would it be with old viewport or with the 2.0 version, with some additional option tweaks.
Thx for sharing by the way
