I need a Video Editor for a youtube video. Whats good and (possibly) free?

So i recorded myself painting an acrylic painting. I have around 20 hours of footage i need to plug into an editor, edit and then speed up so I can compose a 10minute video of the painting being made. Youtube has a built in editor, but I think i need something on my machine considering the size of the rather numerous files I need to edit.

Without spending much cash, what can I pick up that does a decent job of this? I'd like to put all my work sessions on youtube in the future, but I just need some software that is at least somewhat reliable. Anyone have some suggestions?

(google search leaves me pretty overwhelmed. It seems like there are a million of them out there, but most sites look like malware)

I use Camtasia for that sort of stuff. Not free, but it does have a 30 day trial with no restrictions last I looked, so that should get you through at least the current project and let you decide if it's worth it to you. There are a couple of open source video editors, but I never saw one that was particularly reliable or straightforward to use.

I think Blender has an NLE. I haven't used it so I can't vouch for it, but it might be something to look into.

Really if your just editing a simple video just use what ever your os comes with both windows and osx got a video editor.

If its a basic video for youtube whatever on your computer is probably okay, lightworks is another free one that is pretty good. When I make my animations I use Camtasia for basic showcases and client videos and when I do proper stuff I use Sony Vegas pro and Adobe Premiere depending on what I am given.

I use PowerDirector. It used to be quite cheap, but now it has gone a little expensive. Still it's very easy in use and has been very reliable for me so far.

Maybe too expensive if you are looking for the cheapest solution but you can always try the trial.

For very simple edits you can use VirtualDub. Has a lot of features but might be a little iffy to work around on. It doesn't seem like a conventional non-linear video editor but it will get the job done and has a very versatile encoding feature set
