Hello Poly Counters,
I want to get better at modeling firearms, and modeling in general. So I decided to start with a popular shotgun, the 870 Remington. I attempted the M1014 when I had so-so knowledge of 3D especially texturing. My plan is to just create the factory 870 model and once I get a nice looking end result add attachments and other fun items.
I have little time because of work & school, but I try to work as much as I can when I can. So far I have created the block out of sorts.
I am posting this as I would like as much feedback as early as possible.
Please critique on proportions and anything else you may feel needs work. I may not update this that frequently, just a heads up.

The grip is in the air at the moment as far as form, so I am aware of that...
This thing has tons of parts schematics on google, you might already have them but if not they're real helpful for blockouts.
Update:
Started work on the High Poly. Decided to focus on the Receiver and trigger guard. Still need a bit more refining and the carrier loading bit needs to be added.

Question: What is a reasonable tri-count for a shotgun with current gen (X1 PS4)?
I was shooting for around 8,000 or so, I know rifles are higher due to much more detailing. A last gen shotgun I made was 5,000 tris.
Not entirely sure how I will go about adding detail to the stock and pump yet, perhaps sculpted.
Nevertheless C&C please!

I like this version for the pump and stock ^

I am going to call the high poly done. This is just the base shotgun. I plan or would like to add attachments afterwards. I really just want to hop in to texturing soon.
Critiques and comments welcome.
High Poly:
Onto the low poly now.
At the moment no. I am adding a picatinny rail and then a sight at the end. The gun looks too naked without something on top. Thanks for the reminder though.
- Action ,Trigger guard, need to be thicker.
- The top of the action needs to be rounder. Its not quite a half of a circle just above it.
- The taper on the barrel is too much and is too long
- The shell (inside thickness) on the action is too thick
- The sides of the action bar (the thing between the barrel and magazine tube that the pump slides on) should be inline with the sides of the magazine tube) The thickness seems about right just need to move them.
- The pump needs to be beefed up a little.
- The sides of stocks are rarely parallel to the to the action.
- The balm swell need to be round
- You also need to round your edges out more. They will be too sharp for your bake
Here some References that i used when i did my 870.Thanks,
Reed
I need to fix a few errors in the sight, some edges are rather tight, and the grooves in the pump are also too tight.
Low poly is 90% finished with uvs created.
C&C please!

I finally have had some free time over the week, dusted this project off. Finished the Low poly, UV mapping is done. I completed the bake on the base mesh in Substance Designer.
