[Question] Character Design for a movie

Hello guys!

So, my area is the game modeling, so i know the basic workflow and the basic poly count for a character, tools etc.

But for movies and commercial's, i can use a High Poly mesh? if yes, I'll have to extract the UVW for a HighPoly mesh? :poly142:

I'm really poor at this area, so.. if someone have some article or a book to recommend me... :)

Thanks!!

Well, if anything is going to be animated you still want really solid clean topology. Yes, poly counts will tend to be much higher than what you see in games (generally) but it's not like you can just take a 5,000,000 poly mesh from zbrush and call it a day. Usually you will build a mesh as optimally as you can while still retaining detail and adequate topology for animation, and then you skin and animate at this level, but the final product may also be subdivided or tessellated/deformed in some way.

This isn't exactly my area of expertise but hopefully that gives you a basic idea. You may try looking up some portfolios of cg artists who do work for movies and animations, many times they will post breakdowns like texture sheets or wireframes, which may help you get a better idea.
