I am in the market for a laptop. I have a pretty decent rig at home so I would be doing all of my hardcore rendering and modelling there. I just want something where I can do some photoshop and 3ds max work on the go.
My budget is below $700. I need at least 8gb ram, an i5 would be nice, dedicated card would be great but not a big deal. And at least 500 gb hard drive. I need to be able to run both 3ds max and photoshop (and possibly unity) at the same time for a steady workflow.
Also, what are your thoughts on newegg refurbished laptops?
well, specs are one thing (and i would expect any half decent laptop to run max and photoshop, really) but make sure you research failure rates and typical problems your desired model may have and compare warranty policies. these things can run pretty hot which may lead to a short lifespan.
screen resolution and suitability for outdoor use would be another criteria. does it have a glossy screen that is impossible to read outside of a dimly lit environment? (i have a macbook pro - tell me about that particular problem...)
