OMG! I heard about this contest like 4 days ago but I couldn't log in because it has been forever since I posted and my account was linked to an email I did not have access to. It was driving me crazy! I'm so excited for this contest! I'm doing Voodoo Nami. Nami is my favorite character and I want to give her a really badass redesign. I've been working on it for a few days now. Gonna post my images real soon so you can see process.

Early sketch of Nami I did 4 days ago. Sorry its so hard to see. I draw too light. Been a while since I drew on paper so I'm really slow now. I worked a lion fish into her design.


Been working on the concept in photoshop for a couple days now. Here's where she's at. I've worked on her silhouette mostly but I don't know how well it will hold up in the rift. Whatever. I'll make her look cool first then adjust for the rift.



Working on some weapons this morning. Snakes are kinda voodoo and I want to make her staff harken back to the Rod of Asclepius because she's a healer and all.

This is where I ended up. I'm super stoked about the staff having traits similar to the rod of Asclepius because its used in a lot of medical symbolism. The Rod of Asclepius features a snake wrapped around a staff. Asclepius is a deity associated with healing and medicinal arts in Greek mythology. It's also similar to the herald's staff which resembles two snakes coiled around a winged staff wielded by Hermes who guided souls to the afterlife which feels voodoo-y to me.

I love tribal designs! The staff looks really nice I wonder if theirs a better oceanic animal to replace the Sea Snake? The cow head on the pelvis reminds me of land, which I think hurts the design slightly.(Maybe a more aquatic animal bone?) I really like the lion fish fins and other than my suggestions I love it.

Sorry it's been a while since I posted. I had been holding off until I had made some real progress and things had been really busy around here. I even hosted thanksgiving for my family! So glad that's over but it was fun and everything went smoothly. Thanks for all the feedback. @waterbear, I totally used the wolf skull instead. It's going to be around her waist biting its own skeletal tail. I tried the other skull first and after fully modeling it out, I didn't think it was recognizable enough.



Anyway, still got a staff to make then I'll be texturing.

Sorry for not updating. I tend to work on this late at night and when I'm done I just turn off the computer and go to sleep. Literally, right after I click shut down I remember. So today I'm posting before I work.

This is the progress I've made on the texture. Skyerzz, I'm trying so hard not to get caught up in the details.

OMG this is the last art contest I attempt during the holiday season! It has been a grind to the end! I usually love the holiday season but this year it has been so busy! I even hosted thanksgiving for my family for the first time! I haven't been doing all the baking that I love to do this time of year. To be fair though, I also fractured my left radius a few weeks ago when I slipped on ice and fell off my bike. That definitely contributed to my lack of baking. Luckily, I had already made all the gingerbread for my gingerbread house party. Anyway, I'm so glad to be done! Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave feedback! Now to catch up on sleep!
