[Riot Art Contest] - Black Metal Karthus

Hi folks,

I decided to start on the base of Pentakill Karthus, and as a metal singer myself, I wanted to turn him full black metal. ^^

I already have some very crappy sketches, so instead here's the Pentakill skin:


And a crappy mood board.


Yes, I'm basically doing a skin of a skin. =p

I'm also exploring some variations for the symbol that will sits on his cape, and the "cross" in the center will be carved in his forehead. I'm trying to do something that reminds the inverted cross without being exactly one. Which one guys do you like most ?

I like the 3rd one.. the 4th looks cool but might be too busy.
Aside from that I'm loving the idea!

Thanks guys I also like the second one more, also because the "cross" looks like a geometric ankh (an egyptian symbol related to eternal life). A happy accident

Some progress... I'm about to choose a haircut.
I like the first one more (it was my first idea) but I made a second one to explore the design a little bit... What do you guys think ?
I aslo added some pikes to hold the skulls, they was looking like they could fall at the slightest pinch previously. The chains changed a bit also, and if there's some death metal enthusiasts watching this, you might get the reference with the cross in the forehead.

This guy is looking really cool! I think both hairdoos look good. I'd go with the one that works best in the game perspective and zoomed out which would probably be the one on the right.

It's looking better and better. And i second what EtotheRic said, probably the hairdoo on the right would read better in game.

Actually I liked the first haircut more... The next wip is this it but I didn't thrown away the second one.

So here's the new wip... I've been again super busy so there's not so much progress, I'm starting to run late... : /
Next step, some details, microphone and spellbook.

Hey dude!

It's looking good! You got some very nice clean shapes going on and the silhouette is reading very well!
But it is needing some asymmetry. But you probably will deal with that with the rest of the accessories and what not
And don't worry you are not that late.. if you are then I'm screwed hehe

Thanks! You're right, there's almost no asymmetry... But it's too late to change it now... Also I have a lot of elements and the original Karthus is pretty much symmetrical... Hope he'll look great in the end. If I finish him in time... So busy with work, christmas presents to find...

Some progress on the microphone, wich one do you like best ?
