Hey all! I'm doing a hard surface character for my portfolio based partially on concept work by FightPunch (aka Darren Bartley.) I'm trying to hone the forms on this one. How can I make it better?
The one I'm taking design cues from is to the right. I decided to use the gorilla head however.
DWalker, do you think if I shrink the head it will help proportionally?
I second the critique on the proportions. Adding the gorilla head changes the balance quite a bit. I would either switch out the head or put some bulkier shapes on the body to balance it back out.
I like the concept a lot. i do have to agree that with the gorilla head it does throw everything out of wack. I do not think that shrinking the head will help. I think if you shrunk the torso and the legs height a bit then beef everything up wider shoulders thicker arms and legs (maybe just an added hose to add some more visual weight and dimension). I also really love the face, you did a great job capturing a gorilla, but the fur is very faint even up close, might want to make that stand out a little more. Over all i think it is a great concept though.
Hey guys! Here is an update of the proportions. Thank you again for the critiques!
The more and more I work on this guy I can't help but think he would be a weapon specialist like Jane from Firefly, but with a high pitched Andy Dick voice.
Push it more! Still feels off balance with the gorilla head. Take a look at gorilla anatomy and see what you can pull from there. Would also help to think about how he will posed. Is he going to be in gorilla or human pose?
