[Riot Art Contest] - Black Swan Syndra

Hello! I'm a student from England doing a bachelors degree in illustration and oneday hope to be a character concept and splash artist.

For the contest I either wanted to do a rework of Tempest Janna or a completely new skin for Syndra. I love the raw power of both of these lovely ladies and I wanted to create a ferociously beautiful splash for one of them.

The idea I had for Syndra was the concept of Black Swan Syndra- as the name suggets it would draw inspiration from The Black Swan, Swan Lake and the Royal Ballet in general. I could think of much more interesting compositions and designs for this idea so I chose to do Syndra rather than Janna.

At the moment I'm getting down some rough thumbnails to really nail the composition of the piece. I almost always start sketching onto paper with pencil so expect some updates in the next few days!

So a quick update here. First off I did a really quick initial sketch of how I would want the splash to look, including her clothes, general pose and atmosphere, and the expression and detail.

Then came the thumbnails to help develop composition and pose.

After that were the refined poses; these would help me decide on the final idea for the splash.

Now I need to decide which pose to continue refining! edit:

I decided on pose #1. #2 is often seen in depictions of ballet and #3 doesn't have the gracefulness I wanted :)

(also, sorry if the images are too big. I don't know how to resize them!)

these are great, but some anatomy issues could likely use a bit of referencing!

Can you tell me where the issues are?

Try flipping your images, it will help make the mistakes pop out more! And you should try posing these yourself in front of a mirror...or get someone to take a photo so you can see directly where the problems are! :) (The first pose has issues with torso/leg ratios)
