Finals!
and I did this one for fun
I had an awesome time! I'm so glad I finished! Good luck, everyone!
Hi there, I'll be trying Fizz.
This is my second contest ever so here's hoping it goes well! I've never played LoL, anyone know where I can get a good look at his back? I'm downloading the game as I type but is there a concept art gallery somewhere?
I'm doing the original!

Anyone know of a good tutorial for posing the high res model in brush for the beauty shot? I suck at posing in zbrush.
Thanks!
Adding goals too!
Personal goals for this contest
1) Start the character in zbrush, no maya
2) Learn dynamesh
3) Retopo the character w/o maya
4) Make a sweet hand painted texture
What do people think about the shape of the head?
Edit: found a good angle, looks like he doesn't
I'm thinking I'll finish up this sculpt tomorrow, and then tackle his weapon. If you see anything odd, please let me know! Thanks.
Also, what's the best way to approach the red wrapping on the pole?
Have a great day!
Anyone have a good tutorial that they can recommend to me for retopo, projecting the high level details, and baking out maps?
I plan on searching tonight but I figured I would ask to try to save some time weeding through crappy tutorials.
Thanks and have a good one!
I'm still working on the retopo, and I'm wondering just how many pieces, Fizz should be?
What's best: combining the head and tentacles or leaving them as 4 parts (head, tentacle pair 1, 2, 3)?
Keep the teeth and eyes separate or make them part of the head?
I have zbrush 4r5
Thanks!
As for eyes, I'd keep them in one mesh to save polys. I think the in-game LoL models do this too.
Good luck with the retopo.
I can pop the eyes out, no problem.
As far as the tiny high red details, I keep feeling that way too! Then I check out the concept and I'm like, " damn, that's a pretty simple character. What do I do?"
In other words, I want to push the details, I just don't know where to start. Any advise?
Thanks! I'll be working on him all weekend so we will see how it goes
My first retopo in zbrush. I think I'll UV this bad boy now.
In term of workflow, will this work?
1) Make this an adaptive skin and export it out.
2) Uv it in Headus (I'm thinking I can share almost all of this character. I think he's just split down the center)
3) Load both the low res and high res into Xnormal and bake maps (does the high res need UV data before hand?)
4) Paint the texture
5) Rig in Maya
6) Render
Am I missing any steps?

Here's the issue (the verts have snapped to each other)
UV and baking tomorrow
@Slosh: Thanks for the tips. I'll look into that cage thing tomorrow when I bake everything.
I did the UVS tonight!
Is this true for xnormal? I was going to try out those DOTA baking tutorials available on the front page if polycount tonight.
Then, I popped him in zbrush to polypaint out some seams. C&C welcome!
Yes. Some are red. And some are blue.
Some are old. And some are new.
Some are sad.
And some are glad.
And some are very, very bad.
here is the last touches I would try to put in if you got time:

go go go! : )
I'm worried though, I'm working off this: http://www.lolking.net/models/?champion=105&skin=0
As you can see, the little guy has no definition. He's freakin' scrawny. Do you think I should still add in the definition on the torso? I've been struggling with this very subject since the beginning. I always want to add more, and then I look at the reference and back off.
I can definitely touch up the eye area though, that's a great idea!
slosh - yeah I agree maybe that is a bit of overkill on the pec and muscles, it was a late night paintover haha.
@Wizo, I'll add some extra shadows while I'm fixing the texture.
Thanks, guys!
Oh and I forgot to post this last night, a little pose action while I was waiting on texture crits. I wanted him to look like he was in the water. Its still WIP, but I got tired. :P
Back at it tonight through!
C&C welcome as always
Oh maybe bake out a material from zbrush that's shiney?
What do you think for a warm highlight color? Yellow?
And yeah that might work! i didn't think of a zbrush render pass, but that'd probably do it; just make sure the lighting in the zbrush scene is the same as the light you painted in on the model!

Let me know if it works and good luck! Your Fizz is looking super sweet!
Now, that I've slept, I'll write a few things. This contest was amazing and fun! Thanks Riot!
I chose Fizz because he's relatively simple and since I'm just getting back into 3D, I wanted to learn a bunch of things. I am very happy to have met my personal goals of:
1) Start the character in zbrush, no maya
2) Learn dynamesh
3) Retopo the character w/o maya
4) Make a sweet hand painted texture
I didn't even expect to finish and I'm so glad I did. Cheers!

I don't play LoL, but as far as I can tell, Fizz would be my guy
@ tangerineismine, Thank you! I wanted it to be playful and I'm so pleased it came off. With a title of "The Tidal Trickster", I figured there was a good deal of foolishness involved with him. I loved how happy and mischievous he looked, so I couldn't say no.
I agree to your approach to chose themes wich you are not familiar with. Good luck with next character!
