Thanks Klemen! Maybe something taken from super time force? Could be cool!
I drew a entirely new concept that is a lot simpler, but I think its better for myself to make a effect which feels great instead of showing complicated motions, at least for now.
I might check out Popcorn FX and maybe make the second effect in there (idunno gonna go through some tutorials later). I looked up that they are planning to have somekind of unity intergation between the programs which would really be interesting!
Love how impactful it feels. How are you creating that alpha tested bubble in the end explosion. Is it a sphere mesh with some kind of disintegrating alpha test texture?. Love all the shock waves and the sucking in sparks. Gives it real power!
I had the same experience through the concept phase that you did Christian. I think I may have been too ambitious in my first approach, and I've started to really appreciate the simpler ideas. Great work! I also really like what you did with the spherical texture in your impact, I'm a big fan of the same method to create a sort of atmospheric disturbance.
Shepherd - Thanks! I have been thinking using refraction/normal maps to the explosion(s), but Idunno. Unity has been acting a bit funky when I've tried that before, might take a look into later
Might add a magical bow that appears during the build up to add more anticipation and more stylized smoke for sec. animation might be bit to much but I still have loads of time to try out stuff
(if anyone has suggestions about which settings to get a crisp and clean video recording, please do tell!
Currently I am using fraps recording from the editor play mode and then importing into premiere and exported a youtube hd 720p version, perhaps not the best one)
I feel like the second iteration has lost a little bit of the snap that the first one had. Maybe it's just me, but it feels as if you've slowed it down a bit too much in its timing.
I can't say I am happy with this work, I know I can do better. All the effects I've done feel a bit shoehorned for Unitys system and takes a lot of time to make adjustments. I will make sure to learn popcorn FX later so I can use it as a pluggin into Unity.
This will probably be my final submission for the contest. Sadly I've not had the time and motivation. I know that I could do a lot better but for now this will be it. I will continue to pursue making a FX portfolio later on because I find this work very fun

But I think I will manage to salvage the effect to something similar, somehow!
After a lot of thinking I am not going for the first concept. I think I need more time to think of a great effect. Here are some notes I made

(10 fps ...:shifty: )
Its exactly how you described!
not sure which direction I am going to take the effect, ice or magic like? Going to figure that out

I have had good time making the effects, but I am mostly impressed by how other people have made some superb work!
