I don't know about the skin yet, I want to use this style, because the shield looks really cool in my opinion, but I might change a hero, for example making him possessed by the shield. also the shield was a gate originally if I'm not mistaken, so I might add some detail to make it look built from two parts. just some ideas for now..
I'm a sucker for Darksiders style. I'm loving it, but I suggest designing the edges of the shield to be different from the original. Make it more your own.

anyway made a quick blockout. many parts are still in their early stage. right now I'm wondering if the silhouette is ok or should I still play a little bit with proportions.

At some point I would try to merge the two subtools and work on the transition between the head and the torso.
Don't spend too much time working on the parts that will be covered by your armour!
I dig the sculpt so far but i think you can push his proportions...smaller head, big hands. Basically just push the stylization...seriously nice so far though!
Goldo_O - you're right, I'm not planning to spend a lot of time on the legs, just gonna focus on his torso, because I'm planning to give him less armor, more skin. Pretty nice sculpt, but you might want to retouch the hands. At the moment his fingers look like the exact same finger duplicated four times and stuck on.
I think I'm done with high and low poly. Low poly shield is 2500 tris, and character 6500 tris, gonna try and fit everything into one texture sheet, because half of the shield is mirrored with some parts asymmetrical, and character is also half mirrored except a belt and shoulder armor. right now with all those gears his body doesn't look that big, so I'm thinking about changing his proportions when his gonna be texture later on.
Nice job, love his silhouette. I like where you're going with the textures, but maybe push the contrast and brightness a bit more on the clothing and accessories. Looking forward to more!
Siiiiick! Skin looks a bit sunburned red so maybe bring that back a tad. The outfit has some value separation but feels pretty monochromatic...maybe add some subtle hue shifts to break that up? Great work so far...looking forward to the shield!
thanks man! I'm still thinking about it, was planing to make a lot of glowing bits like lava, and thought that he could also have glowing eyes. At least I'm gonna experiment with it today.
Looking sweet. I think it would be safe to add a bit more saturation to the colors so he pops off the background a little more. Looking forward to seeing the final result.

more update after a big break
Made uv and baked some maps, here you can see ao diffuse only, no lighting. there are some baking errors, but it will be easily fixed later.
made first color pass.
yeah I agree I added some contrast, changed some accessories colors, and changed his skin color, also played a bit with shield colors.
Lava eyes - nice!
