Hey guys, i wanted to make this anime mech and composite it in photoshop. I don't have any veteran's eyes yet so i really don't know what it takes to make it to the next level before rendering it. Would you mind giving some crits? Concept is from Highschool DXD, took some freedom when doing it but it should look pretty close to this
I think since this character is composed of very rigid edges and is entirely solid, it would be easier to model it traditionally rather than sculpt it. Once you've created the shape in a modeling package, then you should bring it in to a sculpting program to add the high resolution details. It's a lot harder to get those really hard edges when sculpting.

You can still sketch up the main forms in zbrush, then use retopo tools and finish the job somewhere else. That may make it even easier.
Thanks LRoy, i think i will try that cell shading technique first but i'll end up doing both methods to practice, i will post the results later when i have time.
Yea, i thought the same about the lights. I put the model in Keyshot, place a blue light with high intensity to contrast the red metallic paint and increased the contrast of the environment. Then in photoshop i blur the background and add some lens flare in a new layer.

But for an illustration purpose does it really need it?

So officially this is my first render attempt:
