Making a sci-fi corridor for my portfolio and this is the concept i'm working from

I'm currently unwrapping the big hatch door but i've come across a problem, I've been straightening UV's on some parts so it's easy to texture and so any diffuse information conforms with the shape but the uv checker appears squiggly :S
Any idea why?

1. Deal with it.
2. Add more edges across that shape to lessen (not remove) the effect of your distored UVs.
3. Unwrap the shape non linearly at the cost of UV space.
