Strange crease along edge maya?

Hi I'm working on a mesh in maya and have a small problem :(. I extruded the inner part of the mesh to give it some thickness then used the target weld tool to connect the edges to make a smooth transition from one set of faces to another. I know bad idea and what happened was it created these strange creases in the mesh, anyway to get rid of them without just removing the old faces?

It could be any number of things. Hard edge normals, nonmanifold geometry (check for polygons inside the mesh at that seam), one side has flipped normals and can't smooth properly, the edges weren't successfully welded together and are still separate... Yeah, check those things.

It seems like when I go to smooth view the edges disappear so I might just smooth it out then try lower the poly count again :).

That's a convoluted workaround for something that should be a simple fix. First try normals>unlock normals followed by normals>conform and finally normals>soften edge. Make sure you're in object mode for all of these operations. If that doesn't fix it, there's probably some dodgy geometry as Bartalon said.
