Hey so I recently posted a thread on creating a Shinobi remake but we put our heads together and changed a lot to get by any copyright issues, it would mean unnecessary paper work for us.
For anyone that didn't see my original post we are four students doing our graded unit and we are creating a 3d game. It will only consist of one level and a menu screen but must be fully working.
Our aim is to get a fully working demo to present to the rest of the class in a professional way like you would see at something like E3.
We will be posting all our work here for anyone to see and critique, we would love for you to let us know what you think and anyway we can make it better.
I think I will be doing most of the posting but there are four of us so they might join in with it too.
Rough design of the main characters face to show first. We are still taking a shinobi-esque feel to the game

This is new though its some environment work, a Japanese Maple Tree.
The character's armor is a little alien seeming, you may want to reference some historical pieces, especially how they fit together and how someone would get into and out of them.
Careful with getting normal maps by xnormal/crazybump conversion, a lot of the bumpiness on the crate and barrel has an artificial look, metal is usually smooth and wood isn't quite that craggy. You might want to look into editing the vertex normals on the tree leaves so that there isn't such a sharp contrast between shaded and lit ones. Overall the props are certainly reading as what they are supposed to be
Keep it up
A mood board is on the agenda for this week actually, mostly its just been written descriptions on environments and characters, concept art is in the making just now, and i am the lead on 3D so until i get some concepts to off the lead 2D artist i have just been creating some general models like boxes, barrels, foliage and rocks.
I see your point with the trees. I used a half sphere like shape to steal the normals from but apart from that I was unsure on where to go from there, any tips?
Is it maybe a bit too much wear and tear?
what abut the barrel do you not like? the same as Amsterdam Hilton Hotel above?
Character mood board
Environment mood board
some stuff im thinking about when making the game
I'd brush up that shoulder tho if you know hat i'm sayin...
in other models I made this within a few hours. any critique?

This is incredible. I love you.
Going to start boxing out the main level in unreal in the next couple of days using primitives.
if there is anything anyone wants to see to give better critique please let me know.
