dos games in windows 7 64 bit?

from what I have been reading it seems that's its next to impossible to do this. I have a bunch of old games i would like to replay
any one have any ideas?
I tried to install win xp on my laptop,
but I can't seem to authorize my copy now it is longer supported
I guess it would be the same with win 98

It's possible. I've got Terranova and SystemShock1 from Looking Glass running fine on Win7-64.

If you're having trouble with a particular game - see if there's any help available over on VOGONS.org (Very Old Games On New Systems).

You can get quite a few on gog.com now too.

well i am wanting to run duke nukem 3d - I have the original cd and its just tells me that it is not designed for 64 bit
I already have dos box installed, maybe I should read through the intructions a bit more:)

Seriously, I spend probably half my gaming time inside of DosBox. It's the best thing to happen to computers since the Pentium 100

yeah with dosbox, when i get to the bit where I install duke nukem 3d and choose which drive to install it ie drive c:\ it just hangs

Just a shot in the dark here, as I have not used DosBox in a while : you could probably try to rip the original CD to an iso file, and mount that into a virtual drive ? Using something like Daemon tools ...

I would also suppose that similarly to Doom, there should be a few engine rewrites floating around letting you run the game files - just through a newer executable.

yay got it working, forgotten how awesome duke 3d was.
pior, I had just neglected to mount a c drive, so dosbox got confused and crashed
works really well, sound and music is fine
