Just came from a meeting with my client and "their client". I'm hired as the concept guy.

Don't want to detail what happened but it felt like I was dealing with Scientologists (but they're not, just same category of cult - no offense meant) who want to make something like a sci-fi/ religious origins movie. No script yet.

It was very very hard not to laugh as I get the briefing of what to concept out.

I didn't feel scared cuz the other group look like ordirnary people...until you hear their world view. Seen the movie "The Master"? Yeah, today I felt I met the real version of the people in that movie.

I was thinking, whoah this is how B-movies are made and funded by fringe groups.

yesh i had to model a 'devil cloud' from 9/11 which was a bit odd, but i did it anyway. I had to avoid the temptation to poo poo the idea, but its a client and if they are paying I try to accommodate

Just imagine if you were making a game for Kim Jong Un...

(Although probably not as weird as you would think...)

Took a closer look of the business card I got from...The Master (the guy who told me what concept art he needs). His official title, get this, "Master Yoda".

As long as I'm getting my checks, I'm just gonna shut up and draw. :poly141:

It's unwise to talk about your clients on a public forum when your alias is tied to your real identity.

That's irrelevant. Other potential employers lurk and post here (it's how I got my job). This is a huge turn off for people and could turn away more work or get you a bad reputation as someone who disrespects his clients. There is a very important code of trust you should uphold with your clients. Doesn't matter if they are crazy or not, that's for you to judge before you sign onto the job. If you need to vent, you can go to ClientsFromHell since it's anonymous. I just don't want you or anyone here making a mistake they could regret.

    ^^Agreed.

This day and age there's been way too many stories of people losing their jobs by posting something on FB or Twitter (that Xbox One developer for example, and he was kind of defending the project, albeit in a tasteless, terrible PR, NDA violating way.)

However horrible the job may be, clients want to make sure the next employee they hire doesn't badmouth the company to the whole world. And you sort of have to think in their shoes, would you want to hire someone to work for you on the off-chance they have a bad day and decide to share it with the online community and potentially become viral?

If you need to vent I'd recommend doing it only with close personal friends and family verbally. Everyone get's stressed out at one point or another, just be smart about it so it won't harm you or your clients.

I shared to bring to the discussion what could happen if you don't know who you're dealing with but realize during the course of a businees meeting that there's something weird with the person right in front of you.

Before arriving at the meeting I didn't know the other group other than my own client were cultish freaks. I maintaned professional attitude though while discussing with them. I don't have tourettes but I was tempted to pull a David Brent, know what I mean. It was that awkward. Dudes, it was like meeting the Manson family before the murders and the swastika forehead tattoo.

One thing I really thanked my teachers/professors back in collage. They were super harsh... and I bet they sometimes purposely gave irrational feedback. Only when I got out in the real world I realized it's all for the good of us students.

They pulled a prop out of a suitcase to show what they wanted to include in a concept. It's important in their beliefs system. I nearly lost it at that point. Havta grab my crotch under the table to keep myself in pro mode and not lol at the guy and his prop.

And...the photo ref with the prop taken during the meeting is in my google drive.

I don't know about anyone else but if any client called me a freakish cult and likened me to serial killers behind my back I would drop them and put them on a blacklist so fast

Come on, guys, I undestand your points, but you took this way too seriously. OP probably wanted to compare the funniest contracts you did while freelancing.

Yes, there's a bit of mockery here but I'd share the stories to my co-workers too..

in real life of course, not in a public forum.

I did read something on clients from hell where at the end of the project, the artist billed the client for the work they did, the client then replied: "Wait....you want payment? I thought you said you were a FREElancer?"

I answered a freelance posting by a non-US email account (first mistake) for "two simple character models". We got to talking specifics back and forth over email. Come to find out, what he was really after was two anime characters, modeled, rigged, and animated... for a pretty horrific hentai rape scene.

It is the only time I have told a prospective "client" to - and I quote - "fuck off and never, EVER contact me again".

    o.O

I think this thread is great, some say it hurts you talking about these things but I think some people need to get a little balls, Cultists, 9/11 fantasists and Hentai rape scenes.......not exactly reputable people who are going to influence employers in getting credible work in the future, if anything I think touching such projects with a 10 foot pole would do more harm than good in the long run.

it seems too many are so eager for work they would follow a employer down the road to hell and if you do that you will end up doing chr models for fifa 2015 and freelancing loli hentai rape porn in your time off.

it is important to have standards and call bullshit when you see bullshit, no one respects anyone who can't do that.
