We are proud to announce the release of a new Substance tool this week:
Bitmap2Material 3!
We rewrote from scratch the algorithms and we can now generate the best seamless normal and albedo maps out there from any source image. The lighting cancellation methods it uses can get rid of pretty much any lighting and output clean, neutral diffuse textures.
In addition to removing unwanted lighting information form images and generating awesome normal maps, B2M3 can also output all the maps needed for a PBR material: Roughness, Metalness, Specular, Gloss, Height, AO and Curvature maps.
Here is how it works:
1. Bring in any image
2. Let B2M work its magic
3. Tweak the results
4. ?
5. Profit!
Last but not least, like with any substance, B2M3 can be used directly in any substance tool or your favorite game engine, generating PBR-ready maps on the fly in UE4 or Unity.
We are putting the final touch to the tool and expect a release as a Stand Alone and on Steam this Thursday!

Metals have very little detail at all - they're mostly defined by their roughness/gloss reflectivity. Having all of that lighting detail in the albedo will not give a true physically correct material.
But as a general rule, yes, metals are the trickiest part because you need to get rid of the reflection as much as possible, we are currently adding some last minute parameters to deal with it and get purer colors on them.
Any possibility to get a steam key if I buy it from your website (still not available) ? I like to have all my softwares with me and I'm really eager to give it a spin !

What's your time limit on upgrades?
Much for your work guys.
Yep, please do so via our contact form and we'll handle it!
