Hey Guys Im having a serious baking problem. I've been successful with it before but today I am getting some serious errors. In the image provided, You will see my low poly in gray and the high poly detail in Green. I am trying to bake floating geo. into normals but I get terrible results. I've been tweeking the setup for over 4 hrs and I am stuck, Steps taken...
_Exploded Bakes (You see in the image explosion, and yes I definitely separated them much more, just wanted to show you guys I exploded them
_Tried single object based bake. Instead of baking all attached, just went piece by piece to see where I was getting errors but still got errors everywhere
_I used the cage, made it real tight too.
_I also turned off the cage, most of my results baked the same
Weird thing is I have used the same explosion method and render setup for a while but this is the first time I used floating geo.
Does the geo need to be capped? because it is not
Maybe its a render setup issue?
_Started with 1024 resolutions, bumped it up to 2048
_Use existing Unwrap channel
_Projection mapping (lol DUH)
_Started with Global SS off, turned it on and got crispier errors
_I also used Hammersley. I am not too sure at what most of the features do and leave the rest at default
I also used smoothing groups for the entire model for the first time, there is no turbo smooth on anything or supporting edges.
Can smoothing groups be a problem?
If anyone can come up with possible solutions please tell. I will really appreciate it.

There are 4 layers. Top layer was my HP gun. I detached geo and made it floats.
The floating GEO is in Layer two and Exploded.
Layer three is the low Poly gun also exploded ( There are hidden objects in there that I did not need to get baked on
Layer 4 is the the low polygun pieced together. Just click UVW unwrap, the uvs are set and you can test the materials (normals) there.
You will see anymations but that was so that the first frame was the gun put together and the second is the gun exploded. Once I attached all objects being baked, the animation no longer worked. So I set up the layers to make it easier for anyone looking.
Thanks Guys!

That thread has some really old, bad and simply incorrect advice like you should only use 1 smoothing group, that is just completely incorrect. I would recommend reading some of the stickied threads in this forum.
