The Thing

Hey polycounters – I decided to make The Thing as a super quick project but of course those dont exist. I blocked out some proportions and even moved on to some detailing but I'm starting to second guess my choice of proportions at the moment. Maybe I've been staring at it to long. In any case I'd love to hear what anyone thinks about it. THanks!

I chose A from the block ins and here's where I am at so far

made some modifications to the proportions. The arms were a bit to long so I lengthened the legs and made them wider. I also made his mid section a little wider and reduced the size of the hands a tad bit. Next I'm going to try and tackle some of the rocks. Crits welcome as always.

I thought it would be the Thing from the movie The thing. Looks pretty cool anyway. I like the face.

just a test render. Not really feeling the pose but so far the render is pretty decent.

Whoa! It looks awesome. That depth of field makes it look like an actual photo of an action figure.

Haha, I was actually also expecting a creature from Carpenter's The Thing.

Looking good! I really love the forms and silhouette on this. The details are kind of letting it down currently (some of the alphas appear kind of hastily applied, edges could be refined), but it's still a WIP. Looking forward to seeing the finished model!

Also, in contrast to other posters, whenever I see a thread with "Thing" in the title, I expect The Thing of the Fantastic Four, for once I wasn't disappointed, haha.

@joarwho , Shiniku - thanks for the comments and feedback. I truly appreciate it .

Shiniku- I didn't use alpa actually. It was the slash brush with alpha 32. I was going for a rough-ish kind of look...plus I think some of the detail was lost during the Remesh -to-projection stage. I do think it needs a touch more detail/damage though.

This "The Thing" movie must be popular. I better add that to the list of viewed films before I die .

Awesome work, this came out really well. I think you could add a clay polish to clean up some of those rough edges inside the cracks, but in a way they sort of add character to it - like it's an actual sculpted figurine. Nice proportions.

- what was your process for making the clean hexagon pattern on the pants?

Jhoythottie - thanks for your comment! I used noisemaker to apply the pattern and set the color blend to get the color variation.

hey Ljsketch the project looks great, i do think the sculpt on the platform could use work with regards to the sculpt and the textures, it doesn't match the quality of the thing.

Oxblood- thanks for your comment and for stopping by. Yeah, I didn't spend much time on the base. I was hoping it wasn't that noticeable
