Hey Everyone, I'm working on an Laundromat based on a couple of concepts from watchdogs (http://i.imgur.com/6u22IK6.jpg). Been working on this in my free time for about 6 weeks now and I'm almost finished with all the interior modelling and planning on starting texturing for the main walls and floor next week. there are still a couple of blockout assets in the scene but should have them sorted soon.

Anyway, hope you all like it and please feel free to critique or ask questions. :)

Been working a bit more on this in my free time. started to texture the main interior so i can start tweaking the lighting further and see how the textures from the interior translate onto the main 3d model. my main concern at the moment is there is too much wood going on in the scene so may alter that. most likely i will replace the light wood for the blue plaster.

as for the floor tiles and the dark brown wood, im quite happy with the look for a first pass.

As you can probably imagine the scene is still heavily wip but please feel free to post feedback :)

Looking fantastic, cant wait to see the finished materials, great work, you could even add some sculpted or simulated clothing strewn around or folded up in piles to sell the environment more.

Thundercliffe I really like your scene! Its coming together really nicely!

I really like your attention to how a laundromat looks realistically and youve nailed it! All the objects look modeled very well and placement is perfect with the basket and other objects around scene.

I really like the way the materials are starting to look, but I do agree with you that the lighter colored wood should be swapped out with more of a basic wall type paint/plaster. All other textures/materials look really nice!

Overall great progress and cant wait to see the finished result, will keep checking on this project. Will keep on my radar!

    Awesome stuff!

I know it's still early, but it seems very bright & shiny for a laundromat. I'd tone down the reflectivity even at this stage. Later on, I'd add dull streaks to the reflection map on the floor where chairs or carts have scraped along.

The wood would probably be a veneer or linoleum rather than real wood.

The combination of both wall and ceiling fans is odd; I'd expect one or the other, but not both.

The wall fans themselves look unusual. Aside from the protective grill - which I assume you'll add later - the number & shape of the blades are uncommon. Most fans from that era have 3 blades, with 2 or 4 blades being the next most common. The often have a significant twist which is much greater at the hub and very shallow near the tips.

Hey dwalker thanks for the feedback. you are correct this is early days im currently just trying to get it to a first pass standard (basic models, materials and lighting) and then i will move onto more final stuff like improving models, dirt/wear and more improved realistic lighting. currently i am trying to follow the concept as close as possible and then veer off where i see appropriate (see link http://i.imgur.com/6u22IK6.jpg). as for the wall fans i would expect the ceiling fans were there first but being that its in an american city and the dryers in the laundromat make the room really warm, they may have added the fans at a later date to make customers more comfortable whilst waiting for there washing to be done.

as for the fan blades, here is my reference http://www.ellisbenus.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Lasko-Box-Fan-300x300.jpg. potentially i may change this later on depending on how i feel it looks.

You could add a couple of big heavy duty washers. In all of the laundromats I've ever used, they have a bunch of the standard 5kg washers and a couple of great big 8-10kg ones for washing quilts and blankets or really big loads of washing.

I know they're not in your concept, but they'd make your line of washers a tad less repetitious.

Cool idea. once i get the dryers modeled il consider adding a couple of heavy duty washers :)

It looks awesome. Just remember that the ceiling tiles need to have some rust on the metal trim - small amounts; maybe near a stained ceiling tile

Not much to show this week. spent most of the time creating lightmaps, tweaking lighting and getting base materials on assets. Next week il probably continue with the lightmapping and hopefully get rid of those blockout dryers :)

Been such a busy couple of weeks so ive just been working up an asset in my free time here and there. Decided to complete the vending machine because it looked fairly simple and has some fun graphics i could play around with.

Hope you like it, il be putting it in the scene next and playing about with the shaders, il post updates when its in :)
