I just want to say that love that a game company is looking JUST for a guy to create amazing skys! Your artist can of course look for real world examples of skys looking amazing in video games for reference, but i wanted to add that he could look at videos and screenshots of atmosphere mods for Stalker games to see how great they can look. Arma 2 engine is another good reference - for real-time rendering. As a long time gamer who always sokes in the environments, i'd like to say that one deficit in games where you can really raise the bar, is in giving the horizon a sense of distance and i believe you can do this by appropriately shrinking the clouds there while also raising the amount of detail seen since it is simply a lot of clouds viewed at a shallow angle.

    Good luck!
