That is a good question because their explanation is pretty vague:
Hobbyist and Freelance
"The Hobby & Freelancer license allows individual Modders, Hobbyists and Freelancers alike to sell assets online unrestrictedly. This edition is fully featured."
I agree with you and think we need a definitive answer regarding making a complete game as a freelancer.
Sorry if there is some confusion to this, Indie license is the way to go for you!
Hobby and freelancing is more geared towards asset creation and freelancers. Hope this clears it up Let me know if you have any more questions.
Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a similar question and I thought it would be easier to post it here than to create an entire thread.
I am planning on buying the Academic License next week, but I am curious if you guys will have any upgrade options available for when I get out of school.
If for example I wanted to upgrade to the Hobby & Freelance License from Academic, would I have to pay the full $99? Or would I pay a smaller amount, like the $50 difference between the two licenses?
I'm with aBabyPenguin, I was a cheap skate back in... I believe March, I purchased academic. But I have fallen in love with Quixel and it's growth and support, more than any tool I have, and actually would like to contribute more financially.
Okay well Zbrush then Quixel... to be honest
FYI/PS
I am a student at fullsail.edu for computer animation but I'm more of the GENERALIST
@aBabyPenguin@Shanteez - Thank you so much for your support! you can send an email to cyra@quixel.se to upgrade your license from academy to freelance
@stiloblique - You can contact customer service wtih an activation code if you dont have internet access, after that you dont need to be onlie to run the sute.
@fourtynights - a little birdie told me that the Beta will be extended for roughly another month, so i would say yes to your question. More info to come soon!
Alright, thanks for the heads up, Eric. Nevertheless, I'm going to buy the academic licence for DDO only at some point. It's good for my "student wallet" being the cheapest, but still serving pretty much all I need at the moment while learning to use DDO. (;
Thank you so much for your support! And remember that you can upgrade your license later on if you wanna go from Academic to Freelance
Cool, you answered the question I've also been wondering. Thanks!
Btw, one more question. Can I move the lincense to another computer? Like "deactivating" it temporarily from the old PC, to activate it again on a new PC. So, how flexible your licence system is in general?
EDIT: and... in the site it says that the academic version is fully featured. Does that also mean that you can export with a highest reolution (4096x4096) without any kind of watermarks in the texture maps? Thinking about using textures on my models in my portfolio for the presentation.
Yes you can move your license to another machine, right now this system is not activated since we're in Beta, but as soon as the beta ends you will be able to deactivate license from within the program and move it!
Academic is fully featured and does not have any water marks!
Sorry to post here, but I still havent been contacted after 5 days after my emails. I bought the quixel suite student license which I provided my school email address(RMIT University, Australia). But after an hour of purchase I received an email saying "There is a problem with your payment for order #(I don't know if it's appropriate to put the order number). Please contact us on team(at)quixel.se at your earliest convenience."
Now the payment has gone through as I checked. I also sent 2 or 3 emails in the following days, but still yet to hear a reply. I'd just like to know what to do, to get the licenses be it providing more details to prove I am a student or something, or it's a problem with you payment system, because I gotta admit, it was incredibly slow, but then again, the payment wouldn't have went through, anyway.
I'm really sorry to hear about this issue. Our support is quite flooded at the moment as you have unfortunately experienced -- for immediate personal assistance, contact kristofer@quixel.se as this is his area of expertise, and he will be able to help you out immediately.
Oh no problem dude, thanks for the reply, I didn't mind waiting, I was just worried about the no news thing, I realise now I might have picked a busy time to run into purchase problems
