Hello people,

have started working on a swamp scene for my portfolio, thought I would share my progress and hopefully get some criticism along the way.
Will be rendering it in UE4, so I slapped together a scene with a few blockouts. Was mostly trying to figure out the terrain tool. Here is how it looks:

Amazing.
This is what I want to do and am working on:

Noticed pretty quickly that I need to rearrange a couple of things to get that "overwhelming" feeling, where the higher trees reach out of picture to kinda emboss the whole scene.

So far I've done a texture which got me into making an entire scene (inspired by jacob07777)

Having tested it out in the scene I can't say whether or not it will cut it however. It's too early to say but I feel it's a little bit too scattered at the moment.

I also made a boat which I will try to keep as focal point:

Will add a few more polys to it to smooth it out, other than that I'm not quite sure what else to do. More ropes aswell.

Right now I'm working on bigger trees which will be placed close to the water edges.

Smaller branches + leaves will be added. I then plan to reuse that texture for smaller "regular" trees.

So that's where I'm at. Will try to post my progress here as much as possible. It's pretty early right now but any critique is appreciated.

Do you have a concept you are working off of, a mood board, or some references? It's a bit hard to critique at these early stages. The composition you've laid out in the second image looks pretty solid so far.

The texture is decent, but the scale of it on the landscape seems to have it tiling too much. You'll definitely want to make a few more textures to paint between.

    Keep it up!
