looks serously awsome!
but i dont really like the square enix connection.
they say they "only" going to help with finding players, but that means marketing right? which you usally pay for? so in a sense square enix is giving them money?
also a part of the money for the kickstarter goes to square enix? thats sounds dumb. if im going to partly pay square enix for this game, why dont they just publish it themselves?

yeah, im suspicious about this.
Why do you think giving money's to big companies is different than giving money to small companies?
You do realize that practically none of these kickstarters for video games ever ask for enough money to actually fund an entire production?
well, then why are they so eager to point out that square enix isnt giving them any money? clearly beacuse they know, that kickstarter has this indie, trying-to-do-it-ourselves feeling to it, which they are trying to evoke with stating that they are poor and only 4 people in the team.
and if square enix is involved, its kind of false advertising.
i guess i cant really say that big companies shouldnt be allowed there, but it has been used as a venue for smaller teams, without any other funding options to make their passion projects. and im pretty sure its why its popular. if bigger companies start using it, that will go away, and differ very little from preordering.
Well, I'm a bit in between this, as I'm friends with the developers and an employee of Square Enix.
I'm not incredibly well versed on the Collective, but I believe it's more like Square Enix is helping with Marketing and Distribution for a cost of 5% of the revenue.
Marketing is a LOT BTW. Do you want to know how many Indies would LOVE for their game to be featured on:
This kind of exposure is VERY difficult to garner.
The developers at Kitfox Games knows this firsthand, as their first game 'Shattered Planet' didn't get nearly the same reach as Moon Hunters seems to be getting.

VERY fun roguelike!! Got it on steam.
I'm giving this thread a shameless bump, cuz there's 63 hours left and a bunch of stretch goals that would be awesome if they hit!!!
I'm holding my breath for a WiiU version, cuz I just got a WiiU for my Birthday, and I wanna play it on that.
Here's a wonderful article she wrote about their experience and observations with running a successful Kickstarter:
