Hey all, there is my first idea at a long sword. I want it to be something that a noblemen or king would use on the battlefield. Lots of ornate swirls and motifs, but still trying to keep most of the sword parts functional and not into the realm of fantastic.

@9thKnight: Thanks! Yep, I will give it a zbrush pass, but prob only for the figurative part. For me, at least, hand modeling swirls give me better control and result than zbrush.
update: adjusted the bock out and did a paint over on top of the sword. Now i can start making the actual high-poly and start detailing.
only 4 things left do:
The dragon, the blade, the horn and puff out the etchings to catch the light better.
alexd: glad you enjoy it!
Game mesh done! Ended up being about 4905 tris. here is my first bake. Gotta fix a few things and its off to a quick texturing with Quixel and integrating it in game.
P.S. Love it !
This game is about hollywood realistic medieval times not about WoW or dungeons and dragons.
A sword can look realy nice and cool without standing out too much because it just don't fit the look of the game.
But then again I'm only speaking for myself and from my experience. TB has the final choice in the end and I wish everyone good luck!
1. Because the game is not F2P, anything I make has to feel premium/expensive. To justify spending money on a virtual item.
2. In keeping with the expensive but historically believable feel, I’ve toned down some of the more fantastical elements to keep the sword more grounded. Some of the more contrasting material like gold been mostly replaced with the look of high quality iron work.
3. Order of the dragon (Ordo Draconum) was the house that Vlad the impaler belonged to which is founded in 1408 (15th century) And yes, they did have ceremonial sword that is coated with gold. :P http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5d/KHM_Wien_A_49_-_Ceremonial_sword_of_the_Order_of_the_Dragon%2C_c._1433.jpg
Here is the new base:
Coming down the the wire here. Got the textured converted to non-PBR and got the sword mostly integrated in game. Will be doing one more solid night of adjustment. Then its off to posting it on the steam website.
Got some feed back from a co-worker and made some subtle variations.
Will paint blood mask and upload tomorrow.
